MANILA, Philippines—Businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles cannot just be moved from Sta. Rosa, Laguna detention to an ordinary jail, his lawyer Alfredo Villamor said Monday.
“On the clamor to transfer Mrs. Napoles from the police camp in Laguna to a regular jail, there has to be a motion from the prosecution first,” Villamor told reporters.
He said that after the motion, the court has to reassess the condition and the circumstances surrounding Napoles’ stay in Laguna.
“The primordial consideration is the safety of my client. If per assessment, she needs to stay in Laguna, we will insist that she stays there. Everything will depend on her security situation,” Villamor said.
Lawmakers Walden Bello and Elpidio Barzaga Jr. said that Napoles’ transfer to a regular jail was long overdue.
Napoles is facing a case for plunder and malversation in connection with the pork barrel scam.
