ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — An engineer and his wife were kidnapped in Jolo, Sulu, on Sunday morning.
Brigadier General Jose Johriel Cenabre, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu, said engineer Bonifacio Salinas and his wife Claire had just arrived from Zamboanga City onboard the MV Danica Joy when abducted by six armed men at around 5:30 a.m..
Captain Ryan Lacuesta, spokesperson of the 2nd Marine Brigade, said the Salinas couple, both employees of the Jolo Water District, were on their way home to the village of San Raymundo in Jolo when the armed men flagged their pedicab down and forced them to a waiting vehicle.
The vehicle reportedly sped toward the village of Anuling in Patikul town.
Lacuesta said members of the Abu Sayyaf Group could be behind the abduction.
