MANILA, Philippines—A love triangle ended in a bloody death on Valentine’s Eve in Quezon City when a newly jilted lover, with the help of two friends,  stabbed dead the man who turned out to be the woman’s real love but whom she had temporarily abandoned while he was in jail.

Police said Rudy Dacurin, 23, of Barangay West Fairview, died at the hands of Rodolfo Valenzuela, 21, his rival for the woman’s affections. They both had a child with her.

The killing happened outside the suspect’s house on Sta. Maria Street, Barangay Holy Spirit, around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Investigator Police Officer 2 Louie Serbito said the stabbing took place right after Dacurin and his live-in partner, Carina Dumalag, visited Valenzuela to deliver some financial support for his five-month-old son with Dumalag.

Serbito said Dacurin and Dumalag had been live-in partners for some time and have a four-year-old girl. Dacurin, however, was jailed for two years for robbery.

It was while Dacurin was in jail that Dumalag developed a relationship with Valenzuela, which resulted in another child, a boy now five months old.

Serbito said Dacurin was freed from jail last December, prompting Dumalag to leave Valenzuela and their child to go back to her old lover.

The woman would regularly visit her child by Valenzuela, causing jealousy and animosity between the two men.

“The suspect was apparently jealous and resentful that the woman left him to care for their son by himself,” Serbito said.

On Thursday night, Dumalag and Dacurin went to Valenzuela’s house to bring financial support for the baby boy.

The woman was first to leave the house, leaving the two men inside. While waiting for Dacurin, the woman heard a scuffle inside.

Dumalag saw the jilted Valenzuela stabbing Dacurin repeatedly with a knife with the help of two other men, known only as “Edison” and “Puti.”

The woman tried to stop her ex-lover from attacking her partner, but the suspect turned his ire on the woman and beat her up.

Serbito Valenzuela and his two accomplices escaped after the stabbing and remain at large.

Dumalag rushed the victim to the Malvar General Hospital where he died at 10:05 p.m. from several stab wounds.
