MANILA, Philippines—A 19-year-old man turned the eve of Valentine’s Day into a horror story when he stabbed to death his mother’s lover in Pandacan, Manila.

The Manila police has launched a manhunt for Sonny Boy Dangani III, who on Thursday night killed 35-year-Ernesto Piga, the live-in partner of his mother Rosalia, who has since disappeared as well.

According to Senior Police Officer 3 Glenzor Vallejo of the Manila Police District’s homicide division, when Dangani arrived at their home at No. 1944 Obeses Street around 9 p.m., he witnessed how Piga shouted at his mother during an argument.

According to initial investigation, Dangani tried to stop the victim from hurting Rosalia but he was pushed by the angry Piga out of their house.

“When the suspect came back to their residence, he was already armed with a kitchen knife,” Vallejo said.

Dangani stabbed Piga three times in the back, the policeman said, adding that the victim managed to run and ask for help in a nearby alley. He was declared dead on arrival at the Philippine General Hospital.

Dangani fled immediately after the killing. The police said the woman has disappeared and they had no idea as yet of whereabouts.

According to the police, the couple’s fight stemmed from the victim’s suspicion that Rosalia was having an affair with someone else. Ronnel Antipuesto, Rosalia’s brother, told the police that the two had been arguing earlier that day because of the alleged infidelity.

Antipuesto said Dangani is the eldest of Rosalia’s four children with her deceased husband.

The police found a knife sheath at the crime scene but failed to recover the weapon.  Vallejo said that investigators believe Dangani escaped with the weapon.

Except for Rosalias brother, no other witnesses have surfaced to say where Dangani may be hiding or where his mother is.
