Aquino’s birthday wish: Disaster-resilient PH

MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III on Friday said that he’ll pray for a disaster resilient Philippines on his birthday, in light of the many calamities that struck the country and left thousands dead last year.

“Syempre pray. Thank (God) for the 54 years and also for all the things we are aspiring for, especially yung better communities, more resilient to disasters,” Aquino said during an ambush interview at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Aquino presided over the change of command ceremony of the Philippine Army. Major General Hernando Delfin Carmelo Iriberri, who replaced Lieutenant General Noel Coballes as commanding general, also mentioned the challenges of climate change.

The President said he would most likely spend his birthday on Saturday (Feb. 8) with his family and close friends.

“Tradisyon sa amin, lalo na sa Kapampangan, magpakain,” he added.

Asked how he will spend Valentine’s Day, Aquino said he’ll make sure not to bother media.

“Para magkaroon kayo ng pagkakataon na ma-celebrate ang Valentine’s Day ng mapayapa,” he said.

(So you’ll have the time to celebrate Valentine’s Day in peace.)
