MANILA, Philippines—The Supreme Court Third Division on Thursday stopped the Quezon City government from imposing its garbage collection fee scheme on the city’s households, its spokesman, Theodore Te, announced through a text message sent  to reporters.

Under the newly approved ordinance, a yearly garbage fee ranging from P100 to P500 will be imposed on each household in the city while obligating homeowners’ associations and high rise residential building owners to pay more. The fee is due every January, along with the real property tax.
