MANILA, Philippines — A trolley retriever at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 who recently returned the $4,800 he found in the airport parking lot can take up any technical course he wants, for free, according to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).
Jony Villon will receive on Tuesday scholarship vouchers from Tesda as a reward for his good deed, according to a Tesda announcement.
The Tesda vouchers will allow the former overseas worker and his family to take up any technical-vocational course they want.
Tesda Director General Joel Villanueva will award the vouchers Tuesday to fulfill the pledge he made when Villon’s honesty made the news last week.
Last January 28, Villon turned over to his superiors an envelope containing $4,800 (equivalent of P216,000) in cash that he found in the airport parking lot.
Airport authorities contacted the owner who reportedly gave Villon money enough to buy snacks.
The Tesda chief was among those who were moved by the story and pledged monetary and other forms of rewards to the NAIA trolley retriever.
