4 vehicles stolen from Quezon City neighborhoods over weekend

MANILA, Philippines — Four vehicles, parked right outside their owners’ houses, were stolen in a string of car thefts over the weekend in Quezon City.

Police said one of the missing cars included a sedan stolen by a fired driver who wanted to get back at his employer.

The vehicles, nicked in different times, were a white 1993 Honda Civic (XKZ-300), a silver Mitsubishi Strada (TXQ-359), a white 2013 Nissan Urban van with conduction sticker LE-4251; and a black 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer (XFH-382).

All vehicles were stolen in different instances while locked and parked outside the houses of the owners on Saturday and Sunday.

Out of the four cases, only one suspect was identified — who happened to be a fired driver who wanted to get back at his employer.

Ronald Nunag, of Sauyo, Novaliches, was tagged as the one who took off with the Mitsubishi Lancer of his ex-boss at the former’s house on Aramismis Street, Barangay (village) Veterans Village at around 8 a.m. Sunday.

Arturo Cruz, 50, said the suspect was his personal driver for three weeks, until he fired him three weeks ago.

Nunag was suspected of stealing items from his boss’ home, leading to the termination of his services.

But even after being fired, the driver was still lurking in the neighborhood, prompting Cruz to warn his family not to let the former driver in.

On Sunday morning, the victim’s minor relatives were the only ones left at the house when they saw Nunag outside the house, ringing the bell at the gate.

Out of fear, the witnesses stayed on the second floor of the house while the suspect entered the yard and was able to break into the house.

The witnesses only got out after Nunag left with the Mitsubishi Lancer car, as well as a 32-inch television, a Swiss backpack worth P10,000 and a Nikon DSLR camera worth P32,000.

Earlier on Sunday at around 5:40 a.m., Carmelito delos Reyes’ Nissan Urban was stolen while parked outside his house on Union Civica Street, Barangay Sto. Niño.

The victim said he was sleeping in his living room when he was jolted awake by an engine gunning to life.

He peeped to see a man driving his van away.

On Saturday at around 4 a.m., Marc Apostol, 25, lost his Civic parked in front of his house on Dr. Lascano Street, Barangay Sacred Heart.

The victim said he had parked his car and went inside his house for 30 minutes to find his car gone.

At around the same time, Jonasser Bersamina, 32, parked his Strada outside his house Mariveles Street in Sta. Mesa Heights, Barangay San Isidro.

Two hours later, Bersamina went out to find his Strada no longer there.
