Portions of Roxas Boulevard to be closed until Feb 14

MANILA, Philippines—Anticipate heavy traffic as portions of Roxas Boulevard will be closed starting February 2 until February 14 to give way for the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia event in Manila.

In an advisory by Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit, the stretch of Roxas Boulevard, both north and south bound lanes from Katigbak to TM Kalaw, will be closed from Sunday at 5 a.m. until 12 midnight of Feb. 14.

The MDTEU advised motorists and commuters to expect heavy traffic and take alternative routes on the dates of closure.

The stretch of Independence Road from South drive to Katigbak drive will be close to traffic from February 12 to 14 from 5 a.m. until 12 midnight.

The advisory said: “All vehicles coming from Pier Zone intending to utilize the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard shall turn left to P. Burgos, right to Maria Orosa, right to TM Kalaw, and left to Roxas Boulevard to point of destination.”

“All vehicles coming from southern part of Manila intending to utilize the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard shall turn right to TM Kalaw, left to Maria Orosa, left P. Burgos, and right Bonifacio Drive to point of destination,” it added.

Organized by oil giant Shell Philippines, the fifth annual Shell Eco-Marathon Asia will feature over 150 student teams from 16 countries across Asia and the Middle East who created “ultra-energy efficient futuristic cars.”

According to Shell Global website, the winners are the teams that go the furthest using the least amount of energy.
