Gordon re-elected PH Red Cross head

MANILA, Philippines – Richard Gordon has been re-elected chair of the Philippine Red Cross by its board of governors.

In a press statement e-mailed to news organizations on Wednesday, the PRC said Gordon, a former senator and a Red Cross volunteer for more than four decades, was voted unopposed by the Red Cross board.

This is the fifth time that Gordon, who also won another four-year term as Red Cross governor on Monday, will serve as chair of the country’s biggest humanitarian organization.

Also elected unopposed in their respective positions were Vice Chairman Juan Miguel Zubiri, Board Secretary Corazon Alma De Leon, Corporate Secretary  Rodolfo Reyes, Treasurer James Dy, and Counselor Lorna Kapunan.

Earlier, Gordon was also re-elected to the board, with Juan Miguel F. Zubiri, Rachel J. Arenas, Marie Antonette S. Leviste, Danilo L. Concepcion, Francis Joseph J. Jalandoni, Corazon Alma G. de Leon, Andrew O. Nocon, and Sara Z. Duterte–Carpio who all won a fresh 4-year term.

Joining the pool of incumbent governors are Joanne Z. Andrada, Armand Arreza, Reynard Francisco, Ma. Carissa O. Cosolluela, Carlo E. Cua, James G. Dy, Leslie W. Espino, Margarita A. Fores, Sherwin T. Gatchalian, Lorna P. Kapunan, Jose G. Ledesma, Celso L. Lobregat, Mario R. Nery, Leonida B. Ortiz, Adrian C. Pabayo, Mabini F. Pablo, Rodolfo O. Reyes, Rosa Rosal, Wilma Amoranto-Sarino, Monica Siquion Reyna Villonco, and Rosalind L. Wee.

The new crop of Red Cross governors, composed of 18 elected directors (two sets of nine alternately elected every two years), another six selected by the 18 who were originally elected, and six appointed by the President of the Philippines, will serve the organization for the next four years.

Hundreds of administrators, board of governors, and staff of the 100 chapters of the Red Cross in the Philippines attended the event, held at the Manila Hotel with the theme, “Red Cross 143: United, Strong, Everywhere for All Formidable Challenges.”

The three-day event also featured talks on disaster response and mitigation, according to PRC’s press statement.
