MANILA, Philippines—Tropical depression “Agaton” may have weakened into a low pressure area (LPA), but heavy rains continue to pound and flood the country, resulting in the suspension of classes and sea travel.
The Philippine Coast Guard said over social media that as of Tuesday morning, 19 vessels and six motorized boats were barred from sailing, resulting in 2,810 passengers stranded. Of this number, a total of 2,012 were in Catbalogan in Samar, 651 in Cebu, while the rest were in Maasin in Southern Leyte, Camarines Sur and Masbate.
Meanwhile, several provinces have announced the suspension of classes, both public and private.

The state weather bureau said the LPA was located 415 kilometers east southeast of Davao City as of 4 a.m. Tuesday.
