MANILA, Philippines – Even before they could recover from the devastation of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (Haiyan), residents in Eastern Samar are again facing floods and possibly landslides due to the continuous rains spawned by Tropical Depression “Agaton”.
Eastern Samar Representative Ben Evardone on Saturday said around 300 families in the towns of Guian and Hernani who were also victims of “Yolanda” have been evacuated from tents to higher ground.
Evardone said 20 villages from Eastern Samar were flooded.
He added that the highway connecting Eastern and Western Samar remained impassable.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its latest advisory said the Visayas would continue to experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
Eastern Visayas is still recovering from the devastation brought by “Yolanda” that left more than six thousand dead in late 2013.
