Police Officer 3 Herbert Lamosao of Alcantara police station said they were about to attend a funeral in Moalboal, some 89 km southwest of Cebu City, when the accident happened at around noon on Thursday (Jan. 16).
The victims were brought to the Badian District hospital and the Moalboal health center. However, the police have yet to confirm reports of fatalities or give any details as to the condition of the victims.
Most of the victims came from Barangay Bala, a mountain barangay of Moalboal. They were heading to Moalboal town and were passing through the road within the jurisdiction of the adjacent town of Alcantara.
Lamosao said they were fetched by the truck of Moalboal local government, the usual practice in mountain areas during funerals.
Lamosao said his colleagues were still investigating the cause of accident.
He described the road in barangay Lawaan as quite narrow.
