/ 05:35 AM January 12, 2014

A security guard was shot dead at a construction site where he was assigned Friday afternoon in Quezon City.

Armando Ercilla, 49, died on the spot after being shot outside the barracks of the Veritas North project on Agham Road, Barangay Pag-asa, at 6:25 p.m., police said. The shooter remained unidentified and the motive for the killing was yet to be established.

The case investigator, PO2 Louie Serbito, said the victim had been working as a stay-in watchman at the site for about a year. Ercilla’s wife, Loren, was watching TV inside her husband’s quarters when she heard a gunshot from outside, followed by a knock on the door. Upon opening the door, the woman saw her husband bleeding and clutching his shoulder, before falling to the ground.

Serbito said the victim succumbed to gunshot wounds in the chin and neck.  Julie M. Aurelio
