Pagasa issues rainfall warning in Eastern Visayas

MANILA, Philippines—The state weather bureau on Saturday morning issued a yellow rainfall warning in the provinces of Southern Leyte, Leyte and Bohol.
In its 11 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration raised the rainfall alert to yellow in Bohol and some Leyte towns including Matalom, Bato, Hilongos, Hindang, Inopacan.
A yellow rainfall alert is issued for moderate to heavy rains.
Leyte was one of the hardest hit areas by Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (Haiyan), the strongest typhoon to make landfall in the country, with more than 5,000 people killed.
While the low pressure area, which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday, continue to affect some Mindanao provinces.

“Moderate with occasionally heavy rains over portions of Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Island, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte and Camiguin Island,” said Pagasa.
“[Meanwhile], light to moderate with occasionally heavy rains over portions of Davao del Sur, Davao City, General Santos City, Cotabato City, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sarangani, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, Basilan, Zamboanga Peninsula and Misamis Occidental which may persist for two to three hours,” it added.
Pagasa said that due to the surge of northwest monsoon, strong to gale force wind is expected to affect the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and the seaboards of Visayas, CARAGA Region, Misamis Provinces, Zamboanga Del Norte and Davao Oriental.
It also advised fishing boats and other small seacrafts in the affected areas not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
Cebu Pacific Air earlier cancelled 16 flights from Manila to Mindanao provinces and vice versa due to bad weather.
