CEBU HOLDINGS Inc. (CHI) takes on a tough challenge when it hosts the Fast Forward Faster: Silver Run on Feb. 2 starting at The Terraces of the Ayala Center Cebu.
The running event will be CHI’s first time to independently organize a running event. CHI has been part of several races before but only as a partner or supporter.
The typhoon stricken northern Cebu will be the beneficiary of the first ever running event of CHI, which is held in line with the company’s silver anniversary.
The race was originally scheduled last Dec. 1 but was moved after the organizers decided to gather more runners to raise more funds for typhoon survivors in barangay Bagay, Daanbantayan, northern Cebu.
Francis Monera, CHI’s president, said all proceeds will be given to survivors in Daanbantayan. They are also planning to plant mangroves in the area, which is believed to prevent or somehow slow down the devastating storm surge.
The running event was launched yesterday at the Laguna Garden Cafe Ayala branch headed by Monera and ABS-CBN’s Leo Lastimosa. Also in the launching was race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts.
As of this week, 900 runners have already enlisted for the race. Organizers are expecting 2,000 before Jan. 27, which is the cut-off date of registration.
The running event will feature 25-kilometer, 10k and 5k distances. A total of P32,000 worth of cash prizes will be given out to the winners in each distance.
Registration is still ongoing at the Active Zone of the Ayala Center Cebu. The registration fee is pegged at P500 for the 25k, P400 for the 10k and P300 for the 5k. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
