DOLE integrates allowance to basic pay in NCR
MANILA, Philippines—The New Year has brought new tidings to workers in Metro Manila as the Department of Labor and Employment has integrated the cost of living allowance (COLA) to the basic pay of minimum wage earners.
DOLE spokesperson Director Nicon Fameronag said in an interview with Inquirer Radio 990AM that the P25 increase in basic pay was divided into two: P10 was added directly to the basic pay in October of 2013 while the remaining P15 was integrated from the COLA on January 1.
The basic daily pay of minimum wage earners in Metro Manila was pegged at P466 after incorporating the P15 additional wages to the former P451 basic daily pay.
He said that the increase were in accordance with the decision of the National Wages and Productivity Commission.
“Once the basic pay is increased, correspondingly the statutory benefits like the 13th-month pay, overtime pay, night shift differential pay, [will increase] because the computation of the salaries is based on the basic pay,” Fameronag said.
