Number of New Year revelry casualties tops 1,000 mark

MANILA, Philippines — Almost a week after the New Year revelry, the Department of Health has already counted 1,018 injuries.

As of 6:00 a.m. Sunday, 997 injuries resulted from firecracker blasts, two from firecracker ingestion and 19 from stray bullets.

In his Twitter account, Health Assistant Secretary Dr. Eric Tayag posted Monday afternoon that 376 of the 997 blast injuries were from the illegal firecracker “piccolo.”
