Hostage-taker yields after injuring 2 in QC

MANILA, Philippines – A man allegedly under the influence of drugs surrendered to authorities on Monday morning after taking an infant and at least two others hostage for three hours in Quezon City, Inquirer Radio 990AM said.

The report said officers from the Quezon City Police District rescued the hostages from a house in Barangay (village) Sta. Teresita, La Loma, Quezon City and arrested the hostage-taker known as alias “Jerry.”

There were no gunshots heard when the police entered the house.

Village Captain Oliver Villanueva said the hostage-taker was under the influence of drugs.

“Jerry” held hostage an infant and at least two other people, who were said to be his cousins. One of them, a young man, was wounded.

It was earlier reported that “Jerry” also stabbed his mother, who was then rushed to a nearby hospital.

Villanueva said the hostage taker didn’t seem to have any demands, except that he would be able to talk and apologize to his mother.

The police said “Jerry,” who complained of an illness caused by the use of illegal drugs, and his hostages were taken to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
