OVER 60 riders coming from different cycling clubs of Cebu will try to outrun and outgun each other today as they vie for the top plum in the ‘Halad kang Mano Amon’ Cycling Classic, which will blast off this morning in the streets of Danao City, northern Cebu.
The bicycle road race, which will start from the heart of Danao City, will proceed to Lugo and back to the city’s golf course. It is being held to honor Danao’s grand old man, the late Ramon ‘Mano Amon’ Durano Sr.
Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez, top honcho for the Danao City Sports Commission office announced that they will be releasing together all the participants regardless of the categories they are entered into to make the race more exciting.
A total of 40 riders have already signified their intentions to join the 40-below category, while the 40-above division has attracted a total of 25 riders.
Plaques will be given away to the top five performers, while organizers will provide packed lunch for all the participants after the race aside from the free transportation for the riders from Cebu City to Danao and vice-versa. /Correspondent JADE S. VIOLETA
