MANILA, Philippines—A 14-year old boy from Cebu City lost his right hand and a five-year-old his index finger due to firecracker explosions, the Department of Health said Friday.
The victims, who have not been identified, were among the 140 recorded firework-related injuries since December 21, Health Assistant Secretary Dr. Eric Tayag said.
Tayag said, however, that the figure was lower compared to the same period in 2012 which is 146.
DOH has also reported five cases of stray bullet injuries.
No deaths have been reported so far.
The number of firework-related injuries continues to rise despite the Aksyon Pautok Injury Reduction (APIR) campaign of the DOH.
