Contempt case vs De Lima dismissed
MANILA, Philippines – The Court of Appeals (CA) stood firm on its decision to dismiss the indirect contempt charges filed against Justice Secretary Leila de Lima.
Inquirer Radio 99AM on Tuesday said the CA’s Fourteenth Division came out with a ruling junking former Palawan governor Joel Reyes’ motion for reconsideration to cite De Lima for indirect contempt, after she accused Reyes’ lawyers of using “foul tactics and illicit means” to get a favorable court ruling.
Penned by Associate Justice Franchito Diamante, the two-page resolution said the court found no merit to the motion, which is considered “defective” because of Reyes’ failure to sign a “non-forum shopping certification.”
De Lima was accused of contempt after the CA cleared Reyes of involvement in the killing of environmentalist and radio broadcaster Gerry Ortega.
