MANILA, Philippines — A 32-year-old construction worker, reportedly intoxicated, was arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old female student in Quezon City, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported.
The incident occurred late Saturday night in a “vacant lot covered with banana trees” in Barangay Bagong Silangan, police said in a statement issued Tuesday.
“The victim had just come from school and asked permission from her mother to buy food and school materials. While walking home, the suspect, reeking of alcohol, approached her and put his arm over her shoulder,” the NCRPO said.
The suspect was armed with a kitchen knife, according to the police.
“Threatening to kill her if she screamed, he forcibly dragged her into a dark, vacant area where he sexually assaulted and raped her,” the NCRPO added.
The victim managed to escape and sought help from a roving police patrol, which led to the suspect’s arrest, the police added.
The NCRPO did not release further details regarding the identities of the suspect and the victim.
