Nancy Binay blasts Inquirer for ‘malicious’ report on brother
MANILA, Philippines – Senator Nancy Binay on Thursday claimed that the Philippine Daily Inquirer story recounting how her brother allegedly ordered the arrest of three security guards was “malicious.” But because it is the “season of giving and forgiving,” she said it is time to move on.
The senator in a statement sent to INQUIRER.net said, “What was reported in the Inquirer had glaring biases and bends. The video does not capture what really happened.”
The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, the senator’s brother, on November 30 ordered the arrest of three security guards who denied them access to a restricted gate in Dasmariñas Village, Makati City. The story was based on a source privy to the incident and a CCTV footage, which was uploaded online.
Nancy Binay, who was with the mayor at that time, said there were people “bent on putting the name of her family in bad light.”
The two officials are children of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

“In the spirit of Christmas, I pray that we all work for peace and reconciliation instead of kindling hate,” she said, thanking those who were “not swayed by the malicious story.”
“This is a season of giving and forgiving. Time to move on,” she said.
Earlier in the day, the Binay camp through Joey Salcedo said the security guards voluntarily went with the police and stayed at the precinct for only an hour.
