Webmasters lean on Nigerian booters in crushing KTEC

09:16 AM December 16, 2013

THE University of Cebu (UC) banked on its Nigerian booters and took advantage of a tired KTEC Trading squad to chalk up a  5-2 victory in the men’s open division of the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.
KTEC Trading kept in step with UC’s crafty players from Nigeria but eventually faltered after its players succumbed to exhaustion and muscle cramps.
Both teams were tied at 2-2 at the turn but UC pulled away in the second half when KTEC’s players started to ran out of gas.
Matias Modey scored UC’s first goal in the 28th minute but Valentin Ragasajo answered back at the 37th minute for a 1-1 count.
KTEC Trading took the lead after Rodney Gadiongco scored a goal three minutes before the end of the first half but  UC’s Tekeme Ayibapreye managed to tie the game in the 44th minute.
Oyinemi Oputa converted a goal in the 55th minute and added another one in the 88th as KTEC couldn’t find its rhythm in the second half. Modey added another goal in the 90th minute en-route to the victory.
Meanwhile, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Alumni clinched an easy first victory in the men’s open via default over Samba FC.
Queen City United Football Club edged ERCO, 2-1, in the men’s 38-above competition while KN Ferraren nipped JEH United, 2-1. The University of San Carlos (USC) blanked Continental AFS while Leylam FC scored a 1-0 win over Subangdaku FC in the under-23 division.
Leylam FC finished with a draw with T-United in the Inter-company division while San Miguel beat Arkiteks United, 1-0, and ERCO FC routed Kalayaan Engineering, 3-0, in the other games.
In the BPO-Men’s Group B competition, Convergys and Lexmark’s ended with a 1-1 draw while Stream FC walked away with a default win over NCR. Accenture, on the other hand, scored a lopsided 6-0 victory over Eperformax in the BPO-Men’s Group A competition. X-Libris and Innodata’s match ended in a  scoreless draw. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G.
