30 families should leave danger zone in Buhisan—MGB

THE DENR  Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) recommended yesterday the immediate evacuation of around 30 families in sitio Sandayong, barangay Buhisan in Cebu City.

“It is important that communities should heed the advice of letting them out of the hazard areas to prevent the loss of lives,” said Eddie Llamedo, information officer of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), where the MGB is an attached agency.

MGB senior science research specialist Abraham Lucero inspected the area last Monday after two cracks were found there. The MGB team found out that the site is within a limestone area with generally  steep slope and topography and the soil is porous.  “Rains could come anytime and with the volume of water being dumped on this site, it could result to landslides,” he added.

The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), led by Councilor Dave Tumulak, earlier conducted an ocular inspection at the area after Buhisan barangay captain Ramil Rago sought their help when a resident discovered the cracks at a mountainous area. Tumulak identified 45 families in the area, who are residing at the  danger zone  and recommended their evacuation.

CONSOLACION PLAN

Meanwhile, Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado said that residents living in the town’s coastal barangays will be relocated to a housing area, which will be constructed soon.

Alegado cited President Aquino’s order to relocate those residents living in danger zones after  supertyphoon Yolanda.

Alegado was referring to coastal barangays of Tayud, Tugbungan, Nangka and Jugan.

“Naa man gud risk nakita sa katong mga nagpuyo sa danger zones sa upat ka barangays,” she added. /Correspondent Jose Santino S. Bunachita with a report from Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
