DoLE: You need not go abroad, be a machinist

MANILA, Philippines—One vocational course that Filipino students may be missing out and that pays a decent salary so that they do not have to go abroad is that of a machinist.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) assured jobs for Filipino workers who choose to work as machinist in the Philippines, a 990AM report said Tuesday.

Quoting Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldos, the report said that one can work as machinist in various local manufacturing sectors in which they can earn a monthly salary ranging from P15,000 to P30,000 depending on his experience and training.

Those interested to become a machinist can enrol for the course at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, or TESDA, in which they will be required to finish 160 hours in class to be able to get a certificate, the report said.
