MANILA, Philippines—Lawyer Lorna Kapunan welcomes the Supreme Court’s order for her to explain the remarks she made in a television interview about corruption in the Judiciary.
“I welcome the opportunity to cooperate in light of the statement made by Chief Justice Sereno that maybe it’s time for the legal profession to cleanse its rank,” Kapunan said Thursday.
Kapunan was referring to Sereno’s remarks last September that lawyers should blow the whistle on erring judges as she pointed that “hoodlums in robes” are besmirching the reputation of the Judiciary.
Kapunan said she has until the 12th of December to respond to the Supreme Court.
The SC has ordered lawyer Kapunan to explain the allegation she made on national television that some justices are pocketing bribes.
In a one-page resolution made public Thursday, the high court gave Kapunan 10 days to submit her explanation.
Kapunan made her allegations during an interview on “Umagang kay Ganda” program.
During that interview, she asked if she knows of justices who can be bribed to which she said yes.
Kapunan also mentioned that she received information that one can get a restraining order from the Court of Appeals for P5 million.
Kapunan was the lawyer of pork barrel principal accused Janet Lim-Napoles until she resigned last October. She has also represented other known personalities like basketball star James Yap and Hayden Kho.
