Faulty weighing scales crushed

THE Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, Enhancement (Probe) team of Cebu City Hall destroyed 649 defective weighing scales that it confiscated together with the City Markets Office throughout the year.

“Ambulant vendors in streets have styles and techniques to take advantage of consumers using defective scales,” said City Markets Administrator Raquel Arce.

The weighing scales were crushed by a payloader at the Citi Center compound where the Probe office is located.

The weighing scales were determined to be improperly calibrated and were not registered with the City Treasurer’s Office.

“We chose to just destroy the weighing scales because the vendors don’t admit that they own the scales. Some say that they just rent out the weighing scales,” Arce said.

Arce assured that weighing scales inside the city’s 11 markets are functioning perfectly .
