Unseen Tondo gunman shoots police chief

A police official was wounded by an unidentified gunman while he and his men were verifying a report about a car theft incident in Tondo, Manila, Wednesday morning.

Senior Insp. William Santos, P. Algue Police Community Precinct chief, was taken to Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Center where he was treated for a gunshot wound in the leg. He was immediately discharged afterward.

A report by Moriones police station commander Supt. Jackson Tuliao said that around 3 a.m. Wednesday, Santos and several of his men went to Masangkay Street in Estero de Magdalena, Tondo, after they received information about a vehicle being stolen.

When the police team arrived in the area on motorcycles, they started walking around. One of the responding officers, PO1 Rex Falogme, said that at 3:25 a.m., they heard a single gunshot. Santos complained of pain in his leg which then started to bleed.
