Males more prone to dengue than females—DOH

MANILA, Philippines—Males are more prone to dengue than females, the Department of Health said.

In its latest Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit report, the DOH attributed the males’ vulnerability to dengue infection to their being outside their homes more often than females, a 990AM report Tuesday.

A total of 13,698 dengue cases were recorded from January 1 to August 26, with 84 deaths recorded mostly in Quezon City, the report said.

New-born babies up to 15 years old comprised the biggest number of infected persons at 7,897 cases. A total of 4,741 infections were recorded in the age group 16 to 29, and 749 cases in the 30 to 44 age bracket, said the report.

The DOH on Tuesday conducted fumigation in Parañaque and in Sta. Ana, Manila last Friday, said the report.
