‘LET STUDENTS TAKE TEACHER’S EXAM’

THE Cebu Provincial Board yesterday passed a resolution asking the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) to allow education graduates of Mandaue City College under Dr. Paulus Cañete to take the Licensure Examinations for Teachers.

“The Provincial Board makes this appeal for humanitarian reasons, to give these graduates the chance to fulfill their long-awaited dreams of becoming professional teachers and eventually uplift their standard of living as mandated by our laws,” read the resolution sponsored by Board Member Thadeo Ouano.

Ched and the Professional Regulation Commission earlier issued circulars barring graduates of the school who need to take board examinations from taking tests, saying that Cañete’s MCC is operating illegally.

Ouano, however, said  the poor and deserving students cannot  afford to transfer to another school.

Cañete and some students arrived in the middle of the session but he was not allowed to take the floor since his visit was not on the agenda. /Usj-R Mass Com Intern Giovanni F. Garcia

YOUNG: MARKET TO SCHOOL, NOT PARK

CEBU City Vice Mayor Joy Young expressed his dismay with the plan of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama to convert the Pasil fish market to a park instead of a school that will accommodate Pasil High School and Cebu City College students.

In a letter to Rama, Young said he is aghast with the plan and asked Rama to consider favoring education over beautification.

The conversion of the Pasil fish market to a public park would cost the city P 35 million pesos.

“That amount is enough to fund some 50 classrooms for the students in the City,” Young said. Young yesterday presented the blueprint of the school building.

“We had this plan all along and we just presented it after the Mayor made certain his intention to convert the space into a public park,” he said. /Correspondent Edison A. Delos Angeles
