THE regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will provide cash assistance to families in northern Cebu who lost their homes to supertyphoon Yolanda.
Families whose houses were damaged will get P5,000 while those who totally lost their homes will receive P10,000.00.
DSWD regional information officer Aileen Lariba said representatives from the local government, the local social welfare office, the provincial government and engineering office should be present when the DSWD field team conducts an assessment.
There are other factors to be considered when giving cash assistance to affected families. “Livelihood, income and number of children in the family are the factors if these families are capable to rebuild their homes,” she said.
Lariba said the affected towns immediately conducted a rapid assessment of the storm damage and made recommendations on how government could help them recover. “Some of them can’t afford to rebuild their homes,” she told Cebu Daily News. Lariba said they are still waiting for the LGUs to submit their validated assessments to their office.
