DZIQ: Health officials to check inmates with TB

Health officials will be making their rounds in jails Monday to check the condition of prisoners suffering from tuberculosis (TB), in a report from Radyo Inquirer.

MANILA, Philippines—Health officials will be making their rounds in jails Monday to check the condition of prisoners suffering from tuberculosis (TB), a report from Radyo Inquirer said.

Chief Superintendent Benito Dorigo of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was quoted as saying that health officials will be visiting jails to check the condition of inmates particularly those with TB. He also said that this program was to support the National Tuberculosis Program of the Department of Health.

The report said that TB has been ranked as the second leading cause of death among prisoners following cardio-respiratory arrest. There have been 10 reported TB cases in prisons this year.
