ALA pug paypa stops marayan in 6th

ALA Boxing Gym’s Jimmy “Popeye” Paypa sent Jovil “El Pancho” Marayan to the canvas as he logged an impressive knockout in the sixth round of their 10-round showdown in the main event of the ALA-Cobra Tunay Na Lakas Boxing Tour in Cagayan De Oro City last Saturday.

With the win, Paypa improved his record to 15 wins (five knockouts) and two losses. Marayan dropped to 8-15, 33KOs.

Bantayan Island’s Albert Villacampa (16-6-1, 4KOs), meanwhile, scored a technical knockout victory over Roger Echavez (7-11-1, 4 KOs) of Butuan City in the third round.

Amateur stand-out Vic “Vicious” Saludar (3-0, 3 KOs) of Polomolok, South Cotabato also scored a sterling TKO victory against Powell Balaba (7-10-1, 4 KOs) of Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Balaba refused to fight after the fourth round.

Brian Lobitania of Bukidnon knocked out and Butuan City’s Nikong Kalamba in the third round while Jonas Sultan also knocked out Rocky Alvarez in the fourth round.

Other winners were Lito Dante, who logged a TKO victory over Jovel Romasasa in the third round; Junuel Lacar, who also scored a TKO win against Paolo Perono in the fourth round; and Freddie Bisande, who won via unanimous decision against Junjie Codella after four rounds. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
