Cash donation for typhoon victims stolen from church

MANILA, Philippines–Donations intended for the victims of supertyphoon ‘‘Yolanda’’  have been stolen from a church in Agusan del Sur, police reported on Friday.

The report by the Philippine National Police Caraga regional office said the theft was discovered by the parish priest of the Carmelite Convent of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in San Francisco town early Thursday morning.

Father Artemio Jusayan told police that at around 6:30 a.m., while walking around the church premises, he found the windows in the church’s cashier and finance office broken.

Upon checking, he discovered the money intended for typhoon victims missing. He did not disclose the amount taken from the office.

Senior Inspector Ephraim Detuya said the robbers may have destroyed the window grills and the sliding window frame and placed the money inside an offering bag.

The police report said a suspect in the burglary was arrested but was turned over to the Municipal Social Work and Development Office (MSWD) for being a minor.
