MANILA, Philippines — More power generators are set to arrive to the areas struck by Supertyphoon Yolanda as the Manila Electric Company joined in the relief efforts to restore normalcy in Eastern Visayas.

Meralco said that it provided 40 electric generator sets to power up key facilities and boost the recovery efforts. The power distribution firm said it also sent engineers and line personnel in Panay Island and Iloilo.

The objective is to be able to repair vital facilities at the shortest time possible to help these areas recover quickly,” said Ricardo V. “For the other areas, especially the Samar-Leyte grid, we are coordinating with the various stakeholders to help as well in the restoration efforts,” he added.

One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the electric company’s social development arm, has rallied its partners to mobilize relief for the affected communities.

Jeffrey Tarayao, OMF President and Meralco Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer, said that the first priority is to provide aid to survivors who are in immediate need of basic necessities.

“We recognize the urgency of the situation and know the needs of those affected by Typhoon Yolanda. We are expediting the process in order for these victims to receive the aid coming from Meralco immediately,” Tarayao said whose group is reaching out to other towns receiving inadequate relief.

According to Tarayao, the OMF has repacked 7,000 bags of relief goods and has managed the Manny V. Pangilinan Tulong Kapatid Center inside the Meralco compound in Ortigas to receive relief goods.
