COP NABBED FOR INDISCRIMINATE FIRING AND DRUGS

A Cebu City policeman was arrested for indiscriminate firing and possession of illegal drugs Sunday dawn in barangay Calamba, Cebu City.

Seized from the house of PO3 Ruben Perater were an unlicensed M16 armalite rifle, a .9mm pistol magazine, ammunition and four packs of suspected shabu worth P100,000.

Aside from Perater, his companions, Med John Bernabe and Luis Gerona, were also arrested. They allegedly possessed a .45 caliber handgun each.

Perater is a member of the Waterfront police.

CIB chief Romeo Santander said they have received reports that Perater is involved in the illegal drugs trade and they are still checking his possible involvement in other crimes.

Perater did not comment when asked about the drugs and the firearms although he admitted that he fired his gun at a certain Junjun. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon

38 houses gutted, 2 injured in fire

Two persons were injured and at least 38 houses in barangay San Nicolas, Cebu City went up in smoke when a fire hit the area at 1:43 p.m. yesterday.

Victims Philip Abellanosa and Jeffrey Ortiz sustained wounds in their hands and feet.

The fire allegedly started at the house of Rosalie Gerat. Her grandsons, Kevin and Butch Rosales who are brothers were allegedly engaged in a verbal tussle prior to the incident.

Arson investigator Danny Relatado pegged the damage at P500,000.
