About P1.4 million in cash and in kind was raised in a concert last Friday dubbed “We will rise again,” this time for typhoon victims in northern Cebu.
A mix of performers – singers, dancers, musicians, who performed for free, – dedicated the evening to survivors of typhoon Yolanda.
“All donations will go to relief goods immediately. A total of P600,000 is being distributed today and tomorrow directly by the chamber team with the officers including our president Lito Maderazo himself,” said Melanie Ng, in-charge of the concert.
Maderazo, president of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said they were supposed to hold CCCI’s Centennial+10 celebration last Friday at the Ayala Terraces, but gave way to the benefit concert.
This is the third concert in two months which started as a unified donation drive of Cebu’s private sector after the Oct. 15 earthquake with the battlecry #BangonSugBohol.
Friday’s concert, under #BangonCebu, was targeted for areas in north Cebu devastated by Yolanda. A wave of relief goods was sent to Bantayan Island yesterday with priority for Bogo, Medellin, and San Remigio.
Two warehouses have been designated for relief operations.
One is at the former campus of Sacred Heart School in Mango Avenue which was offered for free use for a month, Maderazo said.
The other warehouse is located at the chamber office in the North Reclamation Area, Cebu City.
