Pedestrian dead, 3 hurt as truck loses brakes in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — A pedestrian died and three others were injured as a truck lost its brakes in Atimonan town in Quezon province on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

The Quezon police office reported on Thursday that a truck driven by Jewill Morales was negotiating a curve section of the diversion road in Barangay (village) Malinao Ilaya around 6:40 p.m. when the vehicle lost its brakes.

The wayward truck hit two pedestrians, rammed three vehicles that were parked on the roadside, and consequently crashed into a steel barrier and tilted on its side.

One of the pedestrians, Edwin Pascua, 46, died on the spot from fatal injuries.

Morales, his passenger, and another pedestrian sustained injuries and were brought by rescuers to a local hospital.

The police are conducting further investigation.
