San Beda crushes EAC for 10th win

THE SAN BEDA Red Lions barely broke a sweat in getting their 10th win in 11 games as they creamed the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals, 118-64, in the 87th NCAA basketball tournament yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.

The lopsided victory eclipsed the Red Lions’ own record of biggest winning margin. The previous mark was 46, which they achieved against the very same EAC squad last Sept. 2, 2009, with a score of 109-63. Garvo Lanete led San Beda with 23 points and Rome Dela Rosa added 15, while the rest of the Red Lions who played contributed at least two points or more.

The Generals absorbed their ninth loss in 12 games, which put their Final Four aspirations in trouble.

Mar Villahermosa and Anjo Caram also shone for the Red Lions, combining for 24 points while Jake Pascual posted a double-double of 10 points at 11 rebounds.

Up 82-56 in the third quarter, the Red Lions even stepped harder on the gas in the final period, where they outscored the Generals, 36-8.  Correspondent Jonas Panerio
