Man found dead in daughter’s QC home

/ 03:08 AM November 06, 2013

The decomposing body of a 64-year-old man, hogtied and wrapped in a blanket, was found Monday morning on the second floor of his daughter’s Quezon City residence. The family of Amador Castro, a businessman who was into buy-and-sell, also reported the loss of P150,000 in cash, jewelry and the owner-type jeep that he used Sunday night to get to the house his daughter Maureen de Venecia in Roxasville, Barangay Pasong Tamo. Investigators are looking into the possibility that the victim knew his killers. It was not immediately clear how the victim apparently ended up alone in the house before the attack. “It is very rare for robbers to strangle their victims. If they kill, they never hide or cover the body,” said Insp. Elmer Monsalve, homicide section chief of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU). Castro’s body was found around 8 a.m. Monday by his other daughter, Maricar Yanga. Jeannette I. Andrade

Baby dies of meningo in Marikina hospital

FEATURED STORIES

A one-year-old girl died of meningococcemia Monday night in a Marikina City public hospital. Dr. Emmanuel Bueno, medical director of Amang Rodriguez Medical Center, said isolation measures were implemented at one of the emergency rooms used by the victim from Antipolo City, following the death around 11:45 p.m. Monday. “We cleaned up the emergency room for several hours up to this early morning. Then we got clearance to resume operation (around 10 a.m. Tuesday) after the area was declared safe,” Bueno said. The hospital staff member and others who had direct contact with the victim were also given prophylaxis, a preventive antibiotic. Bueno said the baby was initially brought to Rizal Provincial Hospital for recurring fever and flu-like symptoms before she was transferred to Amang Rodriguez. “She was admitted around 7 p.m. but her condition progressed and she developed convulsions and seizures,” he added. A highly contagious disease, the meningococcemia virus can easily be contracted through the air. Its symptoms include fever, stiff neck, sore throat, and severe coughing, among others. Tina G.
