MANILA, Philippines – A man trying to patch up a fight between a father and son was stabbed dead in the heat of the fight outside a Quezon City slaughterhouse early Friday.
Federico Calpito Jr., 45, died of two stab wounds in the back while undergoing treatment at the Novaliches General Hospital, police said.
The suspect happened to be the teenage son of his neighbor who was arguing with his father in Amparo Subdivision, Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon in Novaliches.
Gio Shay Arquisola, 18, a sales clerk at SM Novaliches, was arrested after neighbors pointed to him as the one who stabbed Calpito in the back.
Police Officer 3 Erickson Isidro, case investigator, said he was preparing a murder charge against the teenager, who was detained at the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.
It was still unclear what Arquisola and his father Rogelo were arguing about at around 3 a.m. Friday.
The drunken suspect was seen bickering with his father on Mayon street in front of a public slaughterhouse.
“The residents there said the father and son were often seen fighting with each other,” Isidro said.
Calpito was at the slaughterhouse to ask for some ingredients for a dish called “papaitan” when he noticed a commotion and joined other residents in trying to pacify the Arquisolas.
Witnesses told police they saw the teenager stab the victim with a butcher’s knife twice in the back, causing Calpito to fall to the ground.
The younger Arquisola ran off with his knife but was arrested at an aunt’s house later on.
