DANAO GETS NEW POLICE CHIEF

CHIEF Insp. Ricky Deniles was named the new police chief in Danao City, northern Cebu.

He took over from Chief Insp. Alvin Balio who asked for a new assignment.

Balio cited personal reasons for his transfer and said it had nothing to do with the ongoing conflict between Danao City Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano Jr. and his brother, Vice Mayor Ramon Durano III, said Senior Supt. EX-LAPU VILLAGE CHIEF DIES

FORMER Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Ernest Luke “Boboy” Weigle died of a heart attack Wednesday night.

Wiegle, 50, was former president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) and an ex-officio member of the City Council.

He died at the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City where he was brought after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Weigel was the second to the eldest son of the late Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ernest Weigel Jr. and Paz Weigel.

He left eight children.

Ernest Luke served as barangay captain of Gun-ob in 1994 to 2003 and was ABC president during the administration of his father who was elected Lapu-Lapu City mayor for three consecutive terms.

“He was a good son. He was like his Dad, ” said Paz.

“Boboy had no health problems except for having a high blood sugar level, ” says Mark Steven. “Kalit ra gyud kaayo ang hitabo.”

The burial is tentatively set on Sept. 10 at the Lapu-Lapu City Catholic Cemetery. The family is waiting for other siblings to arrive from the United States. CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V.MENDOZA

MAN HACKED BY NEIGHBOR

A 37-YEAR-OLD man was hacked and wounded by his neighbor in barangay Upper Labogon, Mandaue City, Wednesday night.

Robin Villamor was wounded in the arms. His alleged attacker, Samuel Paez, remains at large.

Police said that minutes before the attack, Paez confronted Villamor for parking his motorcycle outside his house thus blocking a pathway.

Villamor left after the argument and brought his wife to work.

Villamor was walking home when Paez attacked him with a bolo, said police.

Villamor parried the blows with his arms.

Villamor was able to run and avoided further injuries. He was rushed to a hospital in Cebu City.

Operation to arrest the attacker is in progress, said police. CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
