Ramirez, Mwiti win in Bradford 21k race

DUMAGUETE City’s Mereeis Ramirez showed off her running skills as she topped the women’s division 21-kilometer race of the Matilda Bradford Memorial Chapel’s Centennial Run yesterday.

She shared the top 21k honors with Kenyan Douglas Mwiti, who topped the men’s 21k race.

Ramirez, the current 37th Milo Marathon Dumaguete City leg 21k champion, crossed the finish line at the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) grounds along Osmeña Boulevard in one hour, 35 minutes and 27 seconds to clinch the women’s title.

Mwiti edged Cebuano Robert Daang to lord over the 21k male side with a time of 1:14.52.

Mary Jane Beboso (1:40.59) and Cristy Tutor (1:44.18) finished second and third, respectively in the women’s side.

Daang finished the race in 1:16.18 to place second to Mwiti while Bonifacio Monjas rounded off the top three with a time of 1:17.54.

Lovely Fe Andrin escaped her elder sister Jhean to win the 12k women’s race. Both finished with times of 59:06 but the younger Lovely Fe won via a photo finish.

Kenyan Abraham Missous claimed the top spot in the men’s 12k race with a time of 41:22 while fellow Kenyan James Mebei (41:38) placed second. Cherry Andrin dominated the 6k race with a time of 24:48 while John Daryl Manos emerged the fastest in the 6k male side after clocking 20:12. Jorry Ycong (10:11) and Mary Joy Loberanis (11:31) reigned in the 3k race. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
