Centennial Run gets underway

AROUND a thousand runners will answer the starting gun today as the first ever Centennial Run of the Matilda Bradford Memorial Chapel blasts off at the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) grounds along Osmeña Boulevard.

The fund-raising run is held for the restoration works on the 100-year old Matilda Bradford Memorial Chapel.

The century-old chapel which was built in 1913, needs to be restored since it is considered as one of Cebu City’s historic landmarks.

Local elite runners will spice up the running event as they will be competing in the half marathon, 21-kilometer race.

FEATURED STORIES

Race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE) will handle today’s race which will also feature 12-kilometer, 3k and 6k distances.

The top three winners in the four categories will walk away with cash prizes and medals while the rest of the finishers of the 21k will be awarded a specially designed medal.

Today’s race will pass through Fuente Osmeña, General Maxilom Avenue, Gorordo Avenue, Salinas Drive, Gov. Cuenco Avenue all the way to Talamban and back. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
