MANILA, Philippines – Janet Lim-Napoles , the alleged  mastermind of the  P10 billion “pork barrel” scam, was  rushed to a hospital before dawn Thursday because of pain, nausea and continuous vomiting, a Philippine National Police official said.

Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, PNP-PIO spokesman, said Napoles was rushed to Southern Luzon Hospital in Sta. Rosa City at 1:20 a.m., but was also returned to her detention facility at Fort Sto. Domingo in Laguna at around 3:30 a.m. after medical tests and treatment.

“Based on initial findings, the hospital attributed the subject’s situation to stones in the ureter,” Sindac said.

Napoles  has been jailed  at Fort Sto. Domingo  for serious illegal detention of her cousin and  whistle-blower  Benhur Luy.
In a television interview, Sindac said this was the first time that Napoles was taken to the hospital.

Napoles’ camp, however, has not expressed intention to ask for hospital arrest, he added.

He said Fort Sto. Domingo has its own medical team to check on Napoles regularly but said the facility may lack necessary hospital equipment, the same reason why Napoles had to be rushed to the hospital.

During her first few days of detention at the police training camp, Napoles was also given medical attention after her blood pressure shot up to 180/100, allegedly triggered by her claustrophobic disorder.

Claustrophobia is explained as an anxiety disorder in which one suffers from fear of being in a crowded area, fear of having no escape, and being closed-in, among others.

Napoles, who is also facing a plunder case in connection with the “pork” scam, was summoned to appear and testify   in the Senate on  November  7.
