Cebu City barangay officials receive allowance ahead of polls

BARANGAY officials in Cebu City yesterday received their incentive allowances for the last two quarters from City Hall.

Barangay chairpersons each received P27,000 while the barangay councilmen, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman, barangay secretary and treasurers were given P16,200 each.

The amounts represent their allowances for the second and third quarters. North district barangay officials received their share of allowances in a distribution ceremony held at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug.

South district officials received their incentives in the afternoon. The first quarter assistance was released on May 3.

The second quarter assistance was supposed to be released on October 15 but was suspended because of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that hit Cebu and Bohol.

Yesterday’s distribution was done one week before the October 28 barangay elections.

Cebu City scholars have yet to receive the P1,000-per semester allowance that Rama promised them last year. The allowances are given on top of their P10,000-educational assistance from the city.

Ester Cubero of the city scholarship committee said they are processing the release of the P1,000-allowance next semester.

The amount covers the scholars’ first and second semesters’ assistance.
