Poblacion Occidental makes c’ships

POBLACION Occidental booked the first seat in the championship round of the 3rd Mayor Teresa “Nene” P. Alegado Fiesta Cup basketball tournament after crushing its foe in a do-or-die battle at the brgy. Jugan open court in Consolacion town, northern Cebu recently.

The Poblacion Occidental quintet showcased a sizzling performance in the final frame of the rubber match to log a commanding 85-65 victory over the hapless Cansaga squad in Category B and book the first finals ticket in the Inter-Barangay division of the cagefest.

After a hotly contested opening half, Poblacion Occidental managed to hold on to a slim 43-41 lead at halftime.

Poblacion shocked Cansaga in the final phase as it opened up a huge 20-point advantage in blowing the game wide open for the win.

Barangays Pulpogan and Lamac are still battling each other in another winner-take-all duel in Category B and the winner of this match will earn the right to face Poblacion in the championship round.

Lamac, last week, kept alive its quest for a finals seat after escaping past the twice-to-beat Pulpogan, 82-76.

The cagefest, which is a month-long affair, is among the highlights of Consolacion’s annual fiesta celebration in honor of San Narciso on Oct. 29.

This yearly tournament is being supported by Consolacion Mayor Teresa P. Alegado, Vice Mayor Rey Damole, and all members of the Sangguniang Bayan.
