Eagles take on Maroons
Games Thursday (Araneta Coliseum)
1 p.m. – Adamson vs. UE
3 p.m. – Ateneo vs. UP
THE Ateneo Blue Eagles will try to take another step closer towards a much-coveted sweep and a finals slot that comes with it when they battle the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons today, in the 74th UAAP basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Blue Eagles are coming off a 79-62 demolition of arch-rivals La Salle for their 11th straight win. Ateneo is gunning for three more in order to make their way back to the championship round and a crack at a fifth straight title.
Waiting in the wings for them are the Fighting Maroons as the two tangle in part two of the “Battle of Katipunan.”
After much hype, the Fighting Maroons have been nothing but just that, as they are currently languishing at the bottom of the standings with a 2-9 record, the same as the University of the East Red Warriors.
Those same Warriors will also see action today against the second-running Adamson Soaring Falcons. The Falcons tote an 8-3 card, behind Ateneo’s perfect slate. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
